Power your Progress: Sharni’s goal to get to South Africa

Wisr’s recent Power Your Progress competition gave Australians the chance to share their biggest FY27 goal for the opportunity to win $1,000 to help make it happen. We want you to meet Sharni, one of the competition's top 10 finalists out of nearly 3,000 entries.

Setting the goal: Reconnecting with family across the globe

Sharni’s FY27 goal is to save enough to visit South Africa and reunite with the family she misses dearly. When we asked her why this trip meant so much to her, she told us:

Building the habit: Treating savings like a non-negotiable

Sharni’s top financial advice to people working towards a goal? Make your goal feel achievable by breaking it down into small, manageable steps. Putting away a little extra into a savings account each payday adds up over time. Savings should be treated as non-negotiable.

Finding motivation in shared goals

Saving for a big life goal doesn't have to be a solo mission either. Sharni found extra determination by reading the stories of her fellow Power your Progress finalists whose shared ambition helped motivate her.

After Sharni achieves her goal she wants to keep the momentum going by building an emergency fund, staying on top of her bills and eventually saving towards another trip!
